What it is
The inducer (induced-draft) blower pulls combustion gases through the heat exchanger and out the vent, and creates the pressure that closes the pressure switch. Carrier, Rheem, Goodman and Trane list a weak, failed or disconnected inducer as a cause of pressure switch codes.
How to choose
- Inducer assemblies are model-specific (motor, wheel, housing and gasket). Use the part number from your manual or rating plate.
- Rheem's code 33 steps include checking gaskets, which is a reminder that the sealed combustion path matters.
How it is tested
- Technicians check whether the inducer is getting voltage and running to speed; Trane says to check inducer voltage and operation and replace the assembly or the pressure switch as indicated.
Replacing it
- Inducer replacement affects the sealed combustion path, so it belongs to a licensed technician who can prove the vent afterwards.
Capacitors can hold a charge after the power is off. Safety terms.
