What does Samsung OC mean?

Over-level water error: there is more water in the dishwasher than there should be. Samsung covers it with the same drain and overflow troubleshooting as 5C.

Homeowner part this code names: dishwasher drain hose.

How it shows: Dishwasher display shows OC (also shown as 0C or oE on some models)

Likely causes

  • Blocked sink drain or garbage disposal
  • Drain hose pinched, kinked, or missing an air gap or high loop
  • Dirty or incorrectly reassembled drain and filter area

How to fix OC: safe DIY steps

  1. Check the sink drain and garbage disposal: if you use a disposal, make sure it is clear of food waste; if the dishwasher drains directly, look down the drain for a visible blockage; if the dishwasher or disposal was recently installed, make sure the disposal cap has been removed
  2. Check the drain hose: right after installation, the most common cause is the dishwasher sitting on its own drain hose and pinching it shut. Also check the hose has an air gap or a "high loop" (part of the hose above its sink connection), and is not kinked or bent
  3. Run water in the connected sink for about 30 seconds; if the sink does not drain, the problem is in the home's plumbing, so call a plumber
  4. Clean the drain and filter area (removable parts are covered in your user manual) and reassemble it correctly, taking care with sharp debris
  5. Make sure your drain line is not frozen; if it might be, let the area warm up (Samsung notes frozen lines are not covered under warranty service)
Safety firstSwitch the dishwasher off at its breaker before you reach into the base or remove a filter or cover, and let the tub and water cool after a cycle. Watch for sharp debris. Pump, heater, valve and control-board repairs belong to a qualified appliance technician.

Capacitors can hold a charge after the power is off. Safety terms.
