What does Samsung dE mean?
Door error: the washer does not detect the door as closed and locked.

Likely causes
- Laundry or other items caught in the door
- Door not fully closed and secured
- Door latch not securely fixed
- Damaged door or latch
- Child Lock on with water in the tub (the code can appear even when no cycle is running)
- FlexWash washers (1dC4): the rubber button next to the upper washer's latch is missing
How to fix dE: safe DIY steps
- Check that no laundry or other items are caught in the door, then close the door firmly so it is secured
- Check that the latch is securely fixed
- If Child Lock is on and there is water in the tub, close the door or turn Child Lock off within 30 seconds, otherwise the washer will drain the tub
- FlexWash with 1dC4: replacing the missing rubber button next to the upper washer's latch fixes the error; Samsung says service is not needed
- On some models dC means an unbalanced load, not a door error. Check your user manual; if it is the unbalanced-load code, untangle and rearrange the laundry and restart the cycle
- If the door is stuck locked instead: make sure the cycle has finished and drained and wait for the door lock light to go off. Front-load models keep the door locked while water is detected inside
Safety firstUnplug the washer (or switch off its breaker) and close the water taps before you reach behind it, handle hoses or open a filter. Water left from a recent hot cycle can be very hot, so let it cool first. Never bypass the door lock. Motor, pump, valve, sensor and control-board repairs belong to a qualified appliance technician.
