Basic checks first: jump to safe DIY steps Equipment type: washing machine
How it shows: Washer display shows UE (also shown as Ub, U6, Ur, 1 Ub or 1U6 on some models)

Likely causes

  • Unbalanced or tangled load in the tub

How to fix UE: safe DIY steps

  1. Untangle and rearrange the laundry so it is more balanced in the tub
  2. Close the door and restart the cycle (press Start)
Safety firstUnplug the washer (or switch off its breaker) and close the water taps before you reach behind it, handle hoses or open a filter. Water left from a recent hot cycle can be very hot, so let it cool first. Never bypass the door lock. Motor, pump, valve, sensor and control-board repairs belong to a qualified appliance technician.

Capacitors can hold a charge after the power is off. Safety terms.
