What does Goodman EbL mean?

Blower current too low after the heat on-delay: the main blower is below the value the control expected, and the furnace goes to hard lockout.

How it shows: 7-segment display on a *R9S96, *D9S96 or *R9S92 single-stage furnace in IOG-2037B: EbL

Likely causes

  • Loose motor wiring connections
  • Blower motor not operating correctly, or the wrong speed setting

Safe checks for EbL

  1. Write down EbL before power is removed. Hard lockout does not clear by waiting out a normal retry
  2. Techniciancheck for loose motor wiring connections
  3. Technicianverify blower motor voltage, amps and the speed setting. If the blower motor is not operating correctly, replace the motor
Safety firstIf you smell gas, do not touch any electrical switch or use a phone in the building; leave immediately and call your gas supplier from outside. Turn off electrical power at the furnace switch or breaker before opening any panel, and never bypass or jumper a limit, rollout or pressure switch. Gas valve, burner, venting, wiring and control-board work should be done by a licensed HVAC technician.

Capacitors can hold a charge after the power is off. Safety terms.

When to call a pro
