What does Goodman EAF mean?
Lost communication with the R-32 sensor: heating stops and only the fan runs because the furnace is in mitigation mode.
Call a pro: jump to when to call a pro Equipment type: furnace
How it shows: 7-segment display on a *R9S96, *D9S96 or *R9S92 single-stage furnace in IOG-2037B: EAF
Likely causes
- Furnace not paired with an R-32 cooling unit
- Loose or damaged R-32 sensor wire
- R-32 sensor that the chart says to replace
Safe checks for EAF
- If the fan is running and the burners are not, write down EAF before you shut the furnace off
- Technicianthe chart says the furnace may not be paired with an R-32 cooling unit, and points to the R-32 information section of IOG-2037B
- Techniciancheck that the R-32 sensor wire is connected and not damaged, and replace the R-32 sensor if that is what the chart calls for
Safety firstIf you smell gas, do not touch any electrical switch or use a phone in the building; leave immediately and call your gas supplier from outside. Turn off electrical power at the furnace switch or breaker before opening any panel, and never bypass or jumper a limit, rollout or pressure switch. Gas valve, burner, venting, wiring and control-board work should be done by a licensed HVAC technician.
Capacitors can hold a charge after the power is off. Safety terms.
When to call a pro
Call a licensed HVAC technician. EAF is a sensor-communication fault in mitigation mode, not a thermostat fan setting.
