What does LG vS mean?

Vibration sensor error: LG says vS (shown as u5 or uS on some displays) indicates a potential issue with the vibration sensor, due to a contact problem or a sensor malfunction.

Basic checks first: jump to safe DIY steps Equipment type: washing machine
How it shows: Washer display shows vS. LG notes it may appear as u5 or uS on the display. The washer pauses when it shows this code.

Likely causes

  • A contact problem at the vibration sensor
  • A malfunctioning vibration sensor
  • A temporary glitch that clears when the washer is resumed or restarted

How to fix vS: safe DIY steps

  1. The washer is paused when vS appears. Press Start/Pause to resume the cycle
  2. If the error comes back after you press Start/Pause, turn the washer off and then restart it
  3. Not the same as UE: if the display reads UE rather than vS, u5 or uS, LG treats it as an unbalanced load, which has its own page and steps (LG UE)
Safety firstUnplug the washer (or switch off its breaker) and close the water taps before you reach behind it, handle hoses or open a filter. Water left from a recent hot cycle can be very hot, so let it cool first. Never bypass the door lock. Motor, pump, valve, sensor and control-board repairs belong to a qualified appliance technician.

Capacitors can hold a charge after the power is off. Safety terms.

When to call a pro

If resuming and then restarting the washer do not clear vS, LG says the vibration sensor will require inspection and to contact LG Support.
