What does LG tE mean?
Heating error: usually caused by a faulty thermistor (the washer's water temperature sensor).
Basic checks first: jump to safe DIY steps Equipment type: washing machine
How it shows: Washer display shows tE
Same characters, different appliance: LG tE on a dishwasher is a different fault. LG dishwasher tE.
Likely causes
- A faulty thermistor (temperature sensor), the usual cause LG gives
- A temporary error that can clear after a power reset
How to fix tE: safe DIY steps
- Unplug the washer for 10 seconds
- Plug it back in and press the Power button
- Press the Spin Speed button until No Spin is highlighted, so the washer drains
- Once the washer has drained, restart the wash cycle
Safety firstUnplug the washer (or switch off its breaker) and close the water taps before you reach behind it, handle hoses or open a filter. Water left from a recent hot cycle can be very hot, so let it cool first. Never bypass the door lock. Motor, pump, valve, sensor and control-board repairs belong to a qualified appliance technician.
Capacitors can hold a charge after the power is off. Safety terms.
When to call a pro
If tE persists, LG says to close the water taps and unplug the washer; the thermistor and heating circuit need an LG service technician.
