Water level sensor error: LG says the PE code indicates that the washer's water level sensor is malfunctioning.

Basic checks first: jump to safe DIY steps Equipment type: washing machine
How it shows: Washer display shows PE

Likely causes

  • A malfunctioning water level sensor, the cause LG gives
  • A temporary error that can clear after a short power reset

How to fix PE: safe DIY steps

  1. Unplug the washer for 10 seconds
  2. Plug the washer back in and restart the cycle
Safety firstUnplug the washer (or switch off its breaker) and close the water taps before you reach behind it, handle hoses or open a filter. Water left from a recent hot cycle can be very hot, so let it cool first. Never bypass the door lock. Motor, pump, valve, sensor and control-board repairs belong to a qualified appliance technician.

Capacitors can hold a charge after the power is off. Safety terms.

When to call a pro

If PE persists after the 10-second power reset, LG says the washer will require a repair service. The water level sensor is an internal part, so this is technician work.
