What does LG dE mean?

Door error: the door is not closed properly, so the washer could not lock it.

Basic checks first: jump to safe DIY steps Equipment type: washing machine
How it shows: Washer display shows dE, dE1 or E01

Likely causes

  • Laundry caught between the door and the rubber door gasket
  • Door not fully closed

How to fix dE: safe DIY steps

  1. Open and re-close the door, making sure nothing is trapped in the gasket
  2. Reset the washer: power it off, unplug it or flip the circuit breaker, press and hold START/PAUSE for 5 seconds with the power off, then restore power and try again
Safety firstUnplug the washer (or switch off its breaker) and close the water taps before you reach behind it, handle hoses or open a filter. Water left from a recent hot cycle can be very hot, so let it cool first. Never bypass the door lock. Motor, pump, valve, sensor and control-board repairs belong to a qualified appliance technician.

Capacitors can hold a charge after the power is off. Safety terms.

When to call a pro

If dE, dE1 or E01 continues after the reset, LG says service will be required.
