What does GE C7 mean?

Water temperature sensor circuit failure: GE says the dishwasher's water temperature sensor circuit has become inoperative.

How it shows: Dishwasher display shows C7

Likely causes

  • The water temperature sensor circuit has stopped working (a sensor or wiring fault inside the dishwasher)
  • A temporary control error that a power reset can clear

How to fix C7: safe DIY steps

  1. Disconnect power to the dishwasher at the circuit breaker for about 30 seconds
  2. Restore power and reset the dishwasher, then run a cycle
  3. Not the same as C6: C6 means the incoming water is too cold (below 120°F). Checking the water at the sink does not fix C7, because C7 is the sensor circuit itself
Safety firstSwitch the dishwasher off at its breaker before you reach into the base or remove a filter or cover, and let the tub and water cool after a cycle. Watch for sharp debris. Pump, heater, valve and control-board repairs belong to a qualified appliance technician.

Capacitors can hold a charge after the power is off. Safety terms.

When to call a pro

If C7 returns after the breaker reset, GE says to contact service. The temperature sensor and its wiring are inside the dishwasher and need a qualified appliance technician.
