Status code999GE
What does GE 999 mean?
Control reset needed, or a possible leak: on most models 999 means the control needs to be reset, but on models with the Floor Protect with Alert feature GE says it indicates a possible leak.
Basic checks first: jump to safe DIY steps Equipment type: dishwasher
How it shows: Dishwasher display shows 999 (it may also flash). The dishwasher will not start or run.
Likely causes
- The control needs a reset (GE lists GDT225SGLBB, GDT225SGLWW, GDT225SSLSS, PDT145SGLBB, PDT145SGLWW, PDT145SSLSS, ZDT165SILII and ZDT165SSLSS for this)
- On models with Floor Protect with Alert: moisture in the pan under the dishwasher, which GE treats as a possible leak
How to fix 999: safe DIY steps
- Check your model: if your dishwasher has Floor Protect with Alert, treat 999 as a possible leak. GE says the dishwasher will not start and to contact service; do not keep resetting it
- On the other models, press and hold the Cycle Select and Start pads together for 5 seconds, or until 999 goes away. A blank display or another number is acceptable
- Press any button to finish the reset. 130 or another cycle time may appear in the display, and the dishwasher is then ready to use
- If the dishwasher is also beeping while showing a leak message, GE says to disconnect power to it until it can be repaired
Safety firstSwitch the dishwasher off at its breaker before you reach into the base or remove a filter or cover, and let the tub and water cool after a cycle. Watch for sharp debris. Pump, heater, valve and control-board repairs belong to a qualified appliance technician. If water is on the floor, switch off the breaker before you step in it or mop near the dishwasher.
Capacitors can hold a charge after the power is off. Safety terms.
When to call a pro
Call for service if your model has Floor Protect with Alert, if there is water under the dishwasher, or if 999 returns after the Cycle Select + Start reset. GE says leaking from underneath the dishwasher always needs service.
