Gas valve fault on a Bryant 987MA modulating furnace. The modulating gas valve failed to respond to a command from the furnace control, or power to the gas valve electronics was interrupted.
Bryant 35 is a gas-valve fault on the 987MA Series A modulating chart only. The modulating valve did not answer a command from the furnace control, or power to the valve electronics was interrupted. The check is an intermittent red, yellow, or orange wire at the gas valve or at PL8. The 80% two-stage chart used for the other Bryant furnace pages has no code 35. Code 22 on that other chart is flame proved while the valve is off.
Likely causes
- Intermittent red, yellow, or orange wire at the gas valve
- Intermittent red, yellow, or orange wire at connector PL8
Safe checks for 35
- Count 3 short flashes and 5 long flashes. This code is from the 987MA modulating guide, not the 80% two-stage chart
- If you smell gas, leave and call the gas supplier from outside
- Techniciancheck the red, yellow, and orange wires at the gas valve and at PL8
Capacitors can hold a charge after the power is off. Safety terms.
