Status codeE11Trane
What does Trane E11 mean?

Gas-valve relay fault, or 24 VAC at the 2nd stage valve: the control reports failed internal gas-valve relays, or voltage sensed at the 2nd stage gas valve.

How it shows: 7-segment display on a Trane S9V2 two-stage variable-speed furnace (Service Facts S9V2-SF-2A-EN): E11

Likely causes

  • Internal gas-valve relays have failed
  • 24 VAC sensed at the 2nd stage gas valve

Safe checks for E11

  1. Do not jumper the gas valve. If you smell gas, leave and call the gas supplier from outside
  2. Technicianremove any heating call. If about 24 VAC is present between the brown lead at the gas valve and chassis ground, correct the wiring. If it is not present, replace the integrated furnace control
Safety firstIf you smell gas, do not touch any electrical switch or use a phone in the building; leave immediately and call your gas supplier from outside. Turn off electrical power at the furnace switch or breaker before opening any panel, and never bypass or jumper a limit, rollout or pressure switch. Gas valve, burner, venting, wiring and control-board work should be done by a licensed HVAC technician.

Capacitors can hold a charge after the power is off. Safety terms.

When to call a pro

Call a licensed HVAC technician. E11 is a gas-valve circuit fault. It is not the open-fuse code E12.
