What it is
Front-load washers have a pump filter that catches debris before the drain pump. LG lists a clogged drain pump filter as a cause of OE, and Samsung lists a clogged pump filter on front loaders as a cause of 5C.
How to choose
- The filter is usually cleaned, not replaced. If the cap or its seal is damaged, match the part number from your manual.
- A shallow pan and absorbent towels help with residual water.
How it is tested
- LG's OE steps: press POWER, press SPIN SPEED until HIGH, then START/PAUSE to run a SPIN ONLY cycle and listen for a humming sound. If you hear the hum, the pump motor is working, so clean the drain pump filter.
Replacing it
- Unplug the washer, drain residual water through the drain tube as your manual directs, then remove the filter, clean it and refit it fully.
- LG advises running a TUB CLEAN cycle after clearing debris and using less detergent.
Capacitors can hold a charge after the power is off. Safety terms.
