HE laundry detergent

LG Sud, Samsung SUd and Whirlpool Sud all point to detergent. What HE detergent is and how much the manufacturers say to use.

Updated

What it is

LG (Sud, OE), Samsung (SUd, LC) and Whirlpool (Sud, F9 E1) say excess suds can cause errors or slow draining. LG lists more detergent than recommended, non-HE detergent and powder in the liquid cup; Whirlpool lists non-HE detergent and "no splash" or "easy pour" liquid chlorine bleach.

How to choose

  • Look for "HE" on the label.
  • LG: fill liquid detergent only to the Max line; for powder, remove the liquid detergent cup; put at most one pod directly in the drum, never in the dispenser drawer.
  • Samsung and Whirlpool: use the amount your manual gives and an HE detergent.

How it is tested

  • Samsung says SUd means the washer detected over-sudsing, pauses briefly to let the suds dissipate, then continues the cycle on its own.
Safety firstKeep detergents and cleaners away from children and pets.
