Brownout. Line voltage at the outdoor unit is low. Reset time is 6 minutes.
Bryant outdoor 46 is a brownout. Reset time is 6 minutes. The manual says to check for line voltage approximately greater than 180 V, and to contact the power provider if the reading stays under that. Then check the connections on L1 and L2. If the inverter is not reading voltage properly, replace the inverter. Code 46 does not use the coil checks from 31 or 32. It is not a homeowner meter job.
Likely causes
- Low line voltage
- Bad connection on L1 and L2
- Inverter not reading voltage properly
Safe checks for 46
- Count 4 short flashes and 6 long flashes. The 6-minute reset is the control waiting, not a repair
- Techniciancheck for line voltage approximately greater than 180 V. If it is less than 180 V and that persists, contact the power provider. Then check the line-side and load-side connections. If those are good, replace the inverter
Capacitors can hold a charge after the power is off. Safety terms.
When to call a pro
Call a licensed HVAC technician or the electric utility. Do not use a non-contact tester as a substitute for the 180 V check. That reading is a technician meter step.
