Level and wrench for levelling a washer or dishwasher

LG and Samsung say an unlevel washer can cause UE and drain faults. What to use to check and adjust levelling.

Updated

What it is

LG lists "washer not level" as a cause of UE and Samsung lists it for 5C. LG says to rock the washer from front, back and side, adjust the leg on the side the unit tilts with a wrench until the legs sit firmly on the floor, then check with a level on the top plate.

LG also lists a dishwasher that is not level, or a misaligned door, among the causes of AE.

How to choose

  • A 9-inch torpedo level fits on the top plate of most washers; magnetic ones stay where you put them.
  • Use a wrench that fits the leg lock nuts; see your manual for the size.

How it is tested

  • Place the level on the top plate front-to-back and side-to-side and rock the machine to check all four feet carry weight.

Replacing it

  • Unplug the washer. Adjust one leg at a time, lock the nut against the cabinet, recheck with the level and the rock test.
Safety firstUnplug the machine and turn off the taps before moving it. Washers are heavy: do not tip one without help.

Capacitors can hold a charge after the power is off. Safety terms.
