What does LG HE mean?

Heater error: the heater that heats the dishwasher's water is not heating it, or the water overheated above 90°C (194°F).

How it shows: Dishwasher display shows HE

Likely causes

  • Heater malfunction: the water supplied to the dishwasher is not being heated
  • Water overheated above 90°C (194°F)

Safe checks for HE

  1. Try one reset: press Power to turn the dishwasher off
  2. Switch off the dishwasher's circuit breaker for 10 seconds
  3. Restore power and try to run another cycle
  4. If HE appears again, request LG service
Safety firstSwitch the dishwasher off at its breaker before you reach into the base or remove a filter or cover, and let the tub and water cool after a cycle. Watch for sharp debris. Pump, heater, valve and control-board repairs belong to a qualified appliance technician.

Capacitors can hold a charge after the power is off. Safety terms.

When to call a pro

LG says HE requires inspection by a service technician if it returns after a reset. A related code, tE, points to the temperature sensor and also needs a technician.
