What does Bosch E20 mean?

Heat pump internal heater fault. Bosch uses this same sentence for E09.

How it shows: Dishwasher display shows E20

Bosch's page gives E20 the same meaning it gives E09: heat pump internal heater fault, 30-second breaker reset, then Customer Support. It is not E12. Descaling is the E12 step, not this one.

Likely causes

  • Heat pump internal heater fault

How to fix E20: safe DIY steps

  1. Reset power at the breaker for 30 seconds, then turn it back on
  2. If E20 is still there, call Bosch Customer Support at 1-800-944-2904 with the model number
Safety firstSwitch the dishwasher off at its breaker before you reach into the base or remove a filter or cover, and let the tub and water cool after a cycle. Watch for sharp debris. Pump, heater, valve and control-board repairs belong to a qualified appliance technician.

Capacitors can hold a charge after the power is off. Safety terms.

When to call a pro

E20 and E09 are written the same way on Bosch's list. Neither one is E12. E12 is limescale and uses a descaler. E21 is a blocked heat pump, which is a different sentence.
