Status codeContinuous offCarrier
What does Carrier Continuous off mean?
Status LED stays off: the service label says to check for 115 VAC at L1 and L2, and for 24 VAC at SEC-1 and SEC-2.
Call a pro: jump to when to call a pro Equipment type: furnace
How it shows: Amber status LED on a Carrier 59SC5 stays off. No flashes
Likely causes
- No 115 VAC at L1 and L2, or no 24 VAC at SEC-1 and SEC-2
Safe checks for Continuous off
- A dark LED is a status, not a numbered flash code. Write down that it is staying off
- Techniciancheck for 115 VAC at L1 and L2 and 24 VAC at SEC-1 and SEC-2, with power restored only for the measurement
Safety firstIf you smell gas, do not touch any electrical switch or use a phone in the building; leave immediately and call your gas supplier from outside. Turn off electrical power at the furnace switch or breaker before opening any panel, and never bypass or jumper a limit, rollout or pressure switch. Gas valve, burner, venting, wiring and control-board work should be done by a licensed HVAC technician.
Capacitors can hold a charge after the power is off. Safety terms.
When to call a pro
Call a licensed HVAC technician. Measuring line voltage at L1 and L2 is not a homeowner meter job. A steady-on LED is a different status: the control has 24 VAC.
