No flame.
Rinnai code 12 is no flame. Code 11 is no ignition. Both start with the gas supply. Code 12's other listed checks are the flame rod wire, gas type and inlet pressure, and air in the gas line, which the manual marks for a qualified professional.
Likely causes
- Gas shut off at the water heater, the meter, or the propane cylinder
- Propane tank empty
- Flame rod wire not connected
Safe checks for 12
- Check that the gas is turned on at the water heater, the gas meter, or the cylinder
- If the system is propane, make sure there is gas in the tank
Capacitors can hold a charge after the power is off. Safety terms.
When to call a pro
Code 12 is not code 11 and not code 10. Rinnai's other code 12 checks (the flame rod wire, gas type and inlet pressure, and bleeding air from the gas lines) belong to a trained technician. Call Rinnai Customer Care at 1-800-621-9419 or a licensed technician if the gas is on and 12 remains.
